Tyre production up 3 pc in May; exports down

TYRE production went up marginally by three per cent in May 2004, while a decline in overseas sales in the month pulled down exports by 12 per cent.
A total of 47.12 lakh tyres were produced in the month under review, while 2.91 lakh units were shipped, according to data released by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA).
Production of truck/bus tyres recorded two per cent growth to 8.92 lakh units against 8.75 lakh units in May last year.
Passenger car tyre output jumped 16 per cent to 9.22 lakh units (7.97 lakh units), while jeep tyres recorded 14 per cent growth at 1.20 lakh units (1.06 lakh units).
Production of LCV tyres increased by 15 per cent to 2.90 lakh (2.53 lakh), while moped tyre output jumped 47 per cent to 14,785 units (10,059 units).
Tractor tyre production recorded a growth of about 22 per cent to 2.42 lakh units, while moped tyre output witnessed the strongest growth of 47 per cent to 14,785 units during May 2004.
Other two-wheeler segments like scooter and motorcycle tyres saw decline in production by two and four per cent to 8.13 lakh and 13.78 lakh respectively.
