Pvt sector asked to help rural entrepreneurs

Our Bureau

New Delhi , July 16

THE Government called upon the private sector to extend its technical know-how to rural entrepreneurs in evolving an effective mechanism of designing, finishing and marketing products.

At a seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Ms Tinoo Joshi, Development Commissioner - Handicrafts, talked about the need for corporate sector to update the Government on various aspects of value addition and supply market information.

The Government is trying to come up with visible places which can be accessed by buyers and which could act as an access mode by the market itself for handlooms and handicrafts, she added.

Meanwhile, Mr Subash Pani, Development Commissioner - Handlooms, pointed out that in this sector, the marketing channel between the producer and the consumer is non-existent. So, the capacity of the artisans to imbibe new technologies was below the level of sustenance.
