Thiruvananthapuram , July 7

THE Chief Minister, Mr A. K. Antony, was cautious in his welcome of the Railway Budget which, while being "good in general," according to him, did not go so far as to meet the State's expectations.

Speaking in the Assembly in reply to a submission, Mr Antony said Mr Laloo Prasad's first Budget as Railway Minister did not seem to have taken cognisance of the State's aspirations and requirements.

The Transport Minister, Mr R. Balakrishna Pillai, was being deputed to meet with the Union Minister in New Delhi and present the State's case for a better treatment.

The intention is to persuade Mr Lalu Prasad to making necessary pronouncements favouring Kerala during discussions in Parliament on the Railway Budget, the Chief Minister said.
