Forum demands white paper on child labour in AP

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 5

THE Baala Karmika Vimochana Vedika (Forum for Liberation of Child Labour) has demanded that the government release a white paper, giving details of all child labourers working in factories in the State.

The Convenor of the forum, Mr E. Anjaiah, at a press conference here on Monday, asked the government to update information on the number of child labourers every three months.

Expressing serious concern about unnatural deaths of children in various parts of the State, he said the government should pay compensation to the kin of the families.

Referring to the reports of Sanghi Spinning Mills employing child labour, he said all the children in that factory should be released and admitted to bridge schools.

Citing various incidents reported in the State in the last few weeks, he said it was time to put pressure on the government to view the issue very seriously and take measures to prevent children from being employed.

"It is dangerous for them to be employed at an age when they are supposed to be in schools," he said.

He regretted that people took it seriously only when children met with some accident or died.

Mr Anjaiah also asked the government to do away with the system of education volunteers.
