Job reservations

"I have referred to efficiency and getting out of our traditional ruts. This necessitates our getting out of the old habit of reservations and particular privileges being given to this caste or that group... Let us help the backward groups by all means, but never at the cost of efficiency." Jawaharlal Nehru wrote thus in a letter to State Chief Ministers in 1961.

B. R. Ambedkar, the original proponent of reservation had planned for reservation for a period of 10 years time only, and not indefinitely, as the present politicians are portraying. In fact, reservation for SC/STs existed on a minor scale even before Independence, from 1942-1943.
