Mumbai , June 29 CONSUMERS may soon be able to deal with a "sudden heart attack", even before a doctor gets to the venue, thanks to `HeartStart' - a device from Philips that delivers electric shocks to the heart. Philips Medical Systems (PMS) has rolled out HeartStart, an automated external defibrillator, at a price of about Rs 2 lakh. The product could make the difference between life and death, company top-brass said, given that it helps the heart get back its regular systemic rhythm. Company officials vouched for the safety of the product and said that there was no possibility that excessive shock would be given to a patient. The device guides the user through voice commands and advices against giving a shock to the patient, if not required. Doctors present at the occasion said that sudden cardiac arrest was one of the leading causes of death worldwide, where the heart is seen to have an uncoordinated fast rhythm. "A person can die if the intervention is not within the first seven minutes," a doctor said. At the launch of the device in the city, Mr K.Ramachandran, Managing Director and CEO of Philips India Ltd (PIL), told newspersons that the company was targeting institutions to market the product.
