Aquaculture Safety norms for fishermen Our Bureau
MANGALORE: The Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), Commodore S. Pradeep, has urged the fishermen to follow safety norms while venturing into the sea. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said that some fishermen venture into the sea without life jackets and VHF communication sets and with poorly maintained vessels. Commodore Pradeep said that Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 3 in Mangalore is making efforts to educate fishermen and fishing cooperative agencies to adopt safety norms. Stating that every fishing boat should have life-saving equipment, he requested the State Government to extend subsidy to the equipment. Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 3, which rescued 16 lives last year, rescued 24 lives so far, he said. Plans are there for opening a Coast Guard station along the Karnataka coast, he added.
