Newspapers & Publishing Industry & Economy - Newspapers & Publishing IHT issue: Govt seeking to give teeth to 1955 Cabinet resolution Our Bureau
New Delhi , June 25 IN the wake of the controversy surrounding the publication of the International Herald Tribune (IHT) in India, the Government may consider coming up with a legislation to give statutory status to the 1955 Cabinet Resolution and the syndication guidelines. The CPI (M) leader, Mr Nilotpal Basu, today met the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister, Mr Jaipal Reddy, and is believed to have discussed the IHT controversy and other issues pertaining to Prasar Bharati's DD News. Meanwhile, the legal opinion that the Ministry had sought indicates that it would not be possible for the Government to stop publication of the paper as there is no legislative framework to support it.
