Fees on consumer cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Confederation of Consumer Vigilance Centres has demanded that the State Government withdraw the fees imposed by it for filing complaints in consumer fora.

In a resolution adopted by its general body here, the organisation expressed the fear that the retrograde step on the past of the Government would only keep the bona fide complainants away from the fora. The least the Government could do was to exempt cases involving up to Rs 1 lakh from the levy. In cases involving over Rs 1 lakh, the complainant should ideally be allowed to remit the fees in stamp form.
