Social Welfare Clarification on AP freedom fighters' pension claims Our Bureau
Hyderabad , May 28 FREEDOM fighters beware! The Union Ministry of Home Affairs says that some `elements' are misleading those who participated in the Hyderabad Liberation Movement with regard to their pension eligibility. In a communiqué, Dr K.S. Sugathan, Joint Secretary in the Union Home Ministry, said the Freedom Fighters Division was processing a large number of applications for pension from those who took part in the movement. These applications are received through the State Government. Urging pension applicants not be misled by agents who promise to get them pension, he said one organisation called Freedom Fighters Welfare Committee, New Delhi, has issued a letter to an applicant informing him that his case has been placed before the "Screening Committee" and that the committee has approved it. The committee has also asked the applicant to submit the identification documents. Mr Sugathan said there was no such Screening Committee constituted in the Ministry and any letters received by pension applicant would have no official authority, according to an official release here. The Union Home Affairs Ministry was also aware that letters calling for identification documents from the applicants have been forged by unscrupulous elements signing on behalf of the concerned officers of the Ministry by inserting names of some other applicants and getting the letter photocopied. With the help of this forged document, some agents were trying to mislead the applicants, the release said.
