Workshop on farm productivity reforms

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , May 27

THE Centre for Good Governance (CGG) and the Department of Agriculture, Andhra Pradesh, are organising a one-day workshop on `Agricultural Productivity Reforms in AP' on May 29 at the MCR Human Resources Development Institute.

Policymakers, academicians, farmers and representatives from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) would participate. The focus of the workshop would be to suggest new strategies and means on how to put them into practise.

Key speakers include Dr K.P.C. Rao, Dr Yerram Raju, Dr A. Satyanarayana, Dr Chandrasekhar and Dr V.K. Parigi, well known in the field of Agriculture Policy.

Identifying reforms to be introduced in the Agriculture Department to improve extension services delivery to the farming community, strategies which will enhance productivity of foodgrains and policy changes that would help develop farmer's competitiveness to face global challenges would be discussed.

Even after a decade of efforts to bring economic reforms to increase growth, several challenges remain in reforming the food and agriculture sector. The State Government continues to intervene heavily in key areas, such as, controlling the price of food and fertilisers as per Central guidelines. For introducing reforms in agriculture sector, policy makers need to use research information on the impact of current practises and on the potential effect of reforms.
