54.3 pc of electronic output exported

INDIA exported 54.3 per cent of its total production of electronics hardware and computer software and services to 181 countries in 2002-03.

During 2002-03, 10 destinations accounted for 88.27 per cent of India's electronics and computer software and services exports as against 89.11 per cent in the previous year, according to a statement from Mr Kamal Vachani, Regional Director of Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), UAE and West Asia.

The top 20 IT items of exports from the country during 2002-03 were computer software and services at $ 10.10 billion, followed by CD-recordable at $ 131 million and UPS at $ 114 million.

The US, the UK, Germany, Singapore and Japan are the top five countries accounting for 80.38 per cent of the country's total exports in computer software and services, while the next five countries, Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Australia and China accounted for 7.88 per cent of total exports.

Mr Vachani further added Dubai has been on priority for ESC for exports of computer software and services and hardware during the current fiscal year.

The remaining 171 countries accounted for only 11.73 per cent of India's export of electronics and computer software and services.
