THE Madras Paper Merchants' Association has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to reduce sales tax on paper and boards, and do away with the resale tax and entry tax.

Through a press statement, the association has asked that the sales tax on paper and boards be reduced to 4 per cent from the prevailing 10 per cent. Also, by doing away with 1 per cent resale tax and the entry tax the Government will encourage trade within the State.

The association has assured that through these measures the revenue to the Government will increase since the volume of business will expand. The sale of paper and boards by all the mills based in the State will increase, other mills will open sales depots rather than adopting transfer of documents for sales and use of concessional forms will decrease.
