BHEL to invest Rs 900 crore for plant modernisation

BHARAT Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is investing Rs 900 crore during the Tenth Plan period (2002-2007) towards modernising its manufacturing plants, according to an official release.

Of this Rs 900 crore, Rs 350 crore has been invested in the first two years of the Tenth Plan period and another Rs 230 crore has been earmarked for the current fiscal 2004-05.

Some of the investments in this regard include an ultra modern blade shop at the Haridwar plant to manufacture advanced turbine blades for thermal sets with higher efficiency; and facilities at BHEL's Hyderabad plant for indigenisation of high-tech buckets and nozzles of gas turbines to reduce dependence on foreign sources.
