Professional development

This is with reference to "ICSI may make professional development programmes must" (Business Line, May19). Professional members in industry and not holding certificate of practice also require continuing professional education (cpe) compulsorily if they are to play their role effectively in governance of the enterprises where they are serving as employees.

The ICSI's move is a welcome step in the right direction. ICAI and ICWAI also quickly make cpe mandatory for their members serving in industry to play their role effectively and discharge their accountability to the stakeholders.

In addition all professional associations for senior managers and directors also make cpe mandatory for the members to continue functioning as professionals belonging to any discipline.
