New Products & Services Info-Tech - Telecommunications BSNL's new mobile service in Tirunelveli Our Correspondent
MADURAI: Location-based service is proposed to be introduced for the benefit of mobile phone subscribers by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd at Tirunelveli. According to Mr V. Raju, General Manager, BSNL, Tirunelveli Telecom Circle, the service will be of great help to the new comers to the city as information will be provided on the nearest hotel, cinema hall, fuel station etc. Similar facility is to be introduced in Kanyakumari district. Further, the `wireless application protocol' service, enabling the subscribers to browse on the mobile phone itself and the push to talk facility are also to be introduced for the use of smaller group of people or the field staff of commercial establishments. He said that the construction of transmission towers to strengthen mobile phone service in the district is nearing completion and more such towers are being planned to be constructed in a bid to cover the entire district. Also, the service through `wireless in local loop' is to be introduced for which the supply of instruments is awaited, he added. Mr Raju urged the farming community to make use of `1551 toll free service', offered to the Kisan Call Centres to get clarification on matters relating to agriculture.
