New Govt must continue reforms with more zeal: FIEO

Our Bureau

New Delhi , May 13

THE Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) wants the new Government at the Centre to continue with the reforms process with more "zeal" and "vigour".

A statement issued by the FIEO said that it expects the new Government to look into the problems of the exporters sympathetically. The federation wants the new Government to immediately address the issues affecting competitiveness and profitability of Indian exporters.

The exporting community has once again reiterated the need for restoration of 80HHC benefits under the Income-Tax Act. The FIEO has also held that it would prefer less volatility in the exchange rate.

"The central bank has to intervene in case of high volatility as sharp fluctuations in the exchange rates are neither beneficial for the Indian exporters nor welcomed by the foreign buyers," the FIEO statement said. The federation has also made a case for flexibility in labour laws so as to encourage exporting units to provide employment whenever there is increased demand for export production.
