Counting of votes

HYDERABAD: Elaborate arrangements have been made for counting of votes for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections on Tuesday and for the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

According to the State Chief Electoral Officer, Mr M. Narayana Rao, about 10,000 counting personnel have been deployed in the 115 counting centres in the State. The counting will take place in 42 cities and towns.

As against the total electorate of 5.11 crore in the State, 3.57 crore people have exercised their franchise. On the whole, 1895 candidates contested for the State Legislative Assembly and 279 candidates contested for the Lok Sabha.

Mr Rao asked the district Collectors and Superintendents of Police to be alert and take all steps to avert incidents of violence on counting days.

The Hyderabad Police Commissioner, Mr R.P. Singh, said that Section 144 Cr PC would be imposed in the State capital from 6 a.m. on Tuesday to 6 a.m. on Friday.
