Cashew Nabard study on cashew in Perambalur dist Our Correspondent
MADURAI: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) will be conducting a study to modernise the cashew processing activities in the Perambalur district. Cashew, a major crop, is raised in about 18,000 hectares, in the blocks of Jayankondam, Andimadam and T. Pazhur, in the district. The study, to be carried out by the Nabard Consultancy Services, Chennai, will explore the possibility of introduction of professional methods and a linkage between micro level processing units with major cashew industries in other States such as Kerala, according to Mr N.V. Baskaran, Assistant General Manager, Nabard, Thanjavur. Thirty-two economic activities, such as contract farming, turkey production and vermin composting have been identified for promotion of activities, he added.
