Our Bureau

Hyderabad , May 5

THE Chief Electoral Officer and Special Chief Secretary, Mr M. Narayana Rao, on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness of the State Election Administration for counting of votes with the District Collectors and Returning officers.

The CEO expressed hope that necessary foolproof arrangements were being made for the counting of votes for the 294 AP Legislative Assembly constituencies on May 11and May13 for the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies, according to a press release.

Mr Narayana Rao said that all the proposals sent by the Returning Officers and District Collectors for the counting centres have been approved and asked them to give notices regarding the counting centre in writing to each contesting candidate or his/her election agent.

The CEO said that each candidate should be allowed to appoint one counting agent per table and clarified that any person enjoying security cover should not be appointed as counting agent.

He suggested that a demo might be organised one or two days before counting for all the counting agents so as to familiarise them and prevent confusion on the day of counting.

Mr Narayana Rao also reviewed the posting of counting officials and training to them, counting of postal ballot papers, checking of seals of EVMs before counting, transmission of data to CEO's office, resealing of voting machines after counting etc.
