Shipping New vehicles can be imported through Mumbai port too
K.R. Srivats
New Delhi , April 28 THE Government has further simplified the norms for import of new vehicles by including Mumbai port among the eligible ports through which new vehicles can be imported. Already, the Exim procedures permit new vehicles to be imported through the Customs ports of Nhava Sheva, Kolkata and Chennai. In January this year, the Government permitted new vehicle imports through two more ports - ICD Tughlakabad and Delhi Air Cargo. The Directorate-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has amended the car import policy for allowing new vehicle imports through the Mumbai port, sources said. The move will benefit individual importers in Mumbai as it simplifies the process. Incidentally, Mumbai is a major market for luxury cars and there is a sizeable number of people importing cars in the city, said Mr Satya Bagla, owner of Exclusive Motors, which is importing Bentley into India.
