SAIL may have to relocate stockyards at Bhubaneswar

Our Kolkata Bureau

IN FEBRUARY this year, East Coast Railway had clamped restriction on placing rakes at the SAIL's stockyard atBhubaneswar. However, the ban has since been lifted and the movement has resumed again. But, then, as informed sources point out, the zonal railway could not be blamed . It is working on the construction of a huge coach terminal close to the stockyard and, as a first step towards beginning the work, the restriction was imposed.

The plan for a big coach terminal at Bhubaneswar, now the headquarters of a new railway zone, is understandable.

There are various plans to improve the connectivity not only by increasing the frequency of the existingtrains such as the Rajdhani Express but also byintroducing new ones.

There are proposals to have direct railway connections between Bhubaneswar and Mumbai (Kurla) Jammu/Tawai and other places. Sooner or later, SAIL will have to look for a new location for its stockyards in Orissa's capital.
