Railways Rail unit makes Rs 5-cr profit Our Correspondent
MADURAI: The Central Workshops at Golden Rock near Tiruchi has earned a profit of Rs 5.4 crore during 2003-04. According to the Chief Workshops Manager, Mr G.R.K. Raju, the profit is from the repairs carried out of 19 diesel locomotives of both public and private undertakings. He further said that the workshop had completed the manufacture of 320 low height container wagons for the Construction Corporation of India (Concor) at a total cost of Rs 43 crore ahead of deadline and thereby earned a profit of Rs 7 crore. The workshop has surpassed the target fixed in the manufacture of wagons, cylinder lines and in the periodic over-hauling of diesel locomotives. Adoption of new technologies in the manufacture of BOXN (Bogie open-type wagon new technology air breaks) type wagons and cutting down the costs, the expenditure has been reduced while maintaining the quality, he added, while speaking at the 49th Railway week celebrations organised by the workshop.
