Telecommunications Logistics - Airlines Tata Tele (Maharashtra) sets up Wi-Fi systems in Delhi airports Our Bureau
Mumbai , April 20 TATA Teleservices is setting up Wi-Fi access systems at both the domestic and international airports in New Delhi. A Wi-Fi system allows an Internet user to access the Net from anywhere in a Wi-Fi enabled area, without having to connect his laptop by wire to an Internet access system. "The departure lobbies and some other areas have been Wi-Fi enabled at these airports," said Mr Y.V.L. Pandit, Chief Operating Officer, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd. "We have acquired permission from the Airports Authority of India and work on it has already started," said Mr Pandit. Otherwise, Tata Teleservices broadband business is not going to be much of an area of concentration for the company. This is logical since the company's focus for this year is not on its wireline operations, which is what broadband would ride on. However, the company would continue to service its existing leased line and ADSL broadband customers of whom there are several in Mumbai, said Mr Pandit. The company is doing rather well on the Wi-Fi service front. It has provided the service at 11 star hotels in the city. It would also be providing the same to three Taj hotels in Goa.
