EC Rly stops sulphur loading at Vizag port

Our Bureau

Kolkata , April 19

THE East Coast Railway has stopped loading of sulphur into Box-N wagons at Visakhapatnam port. The ban has hit hard the Bhilai Steel Plant. Visakhapatnam port is the gateway port for BSP.

The argument of the Railway is that the detention of wagons at the plant level has forced it to clamp the restriction. The detention is caused by the manual unloading of the raw material.

Meanwhile, BSP has sent an SOS to the Railway urging it to allow the loading of the material at least into ordinary Box wagons. Earlier also, when the situation so warranted, the Railway used ordinary Box wagons in place of Box-N wagons for the same purpose, it has been pointed out.

BSP requires about 750 tonnes of sulphur every month, or 1,500 tonnes every two months, equivalent of half a rake of Box-N wagons.
