Airlines Thomas Cook plans Mumbai, London charter Tunia Cherian George
Mumbai , April 9 THOMAS Cook (India) Ltd plans to commence outbound charter services between Mumbai and London from early next year. According to Mr Ashwini Kakkar, CEO and Managing Director, this follows the Government decision to liberalise charter services. He told Business Line that the Ministry of Civil Aviation had cleared TCIL's application for outbound services. The application would now be forwarded to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The company would also commence talks with the Indian Airports Authority of India and British Airways Airports Authority at Gatwick for clearances to begin the proposed outbound service. Queried on whether an airline would be registered for the new services, he said the details of the service were yet to be finalised. The company would also have to finalise details such as the catering, ground handling, etc, which would be a time-consuming process. Commenting on the decision to fly to London, he said the city was one of the most frequented destinations in the world. The twice-weekly service, he said, would have a capacity of 200 passengers per flight. He added that the company would look to fly in more passengers so that they could further increase their outbound capacity as well. The Government has recently allowed charter services to operate outbound flights.
