Amrit Foods launches `zero-bacteria' milk

Mumbai , April 9

AMRIT Foods, a division of Amrit Banaspati Company Ltd (ABCL) launched zero-bacteria `Gagan' U.H.T. (ultra-heat treated) milk in Tetra Pak packages in Mumbai.

The `Gagan' U.H.T. milk is available in Tetra Brik Aseptic packs of 1-litre priced at Rs 25 and will be available in Maharashtra.

"Today's customer is demanding safe, healthy and hygienic food products. We have always been a leader in innovation for consumer benefits. The aseptic packages offered us an opportunity to deliver milk to the consumer with its natural taste and flavour," Mr A.K. Tyagi, President of Amrit Foods, said.

"U.H.T. milk is premium quality milk that has been specially processed and packaged so that it can be transported and stored without refrigeration. The U.H.T. processed milk retains its natural taste and has a shelf life of over four months," Mr Tyagi said. The company has used Direct Steam Infusion System (DSIS) to complement the UHT process.

"The DSIS adds instant heating to the final sterilising temperature and has a short holding time and instant flash cooling. This provides for the lowest possible heat degradation to the product while ensuring sterilising efficiency. Thus, taste of milk remains the same even after UHT in DSIS, he said. The total cost of the milk and milk products plant located at Ghaziabad is Rs 30 crore.

From the modest beginning in the year 1940 with the single product, ABCL has made strides in its existence of over 60 years.

ABCL today is a multi-unit, multi-product company having sales turnover of Rs 400 crore. Other companies in the Amrit Group include Amrit Enterprises (Edible Oils), Amrit Agro Industries (Snack Foods), AF Trading, etc. The Group's annual turnover is in excess of Rs 700 crore.
