Strategy Logistics - Roadways TI plans cycle rally on April 18 Our Bureau
Chennai , April 9 WHEN the aspirational motorbike has become more affordable, and there's little time to pedal around the city, why opt for a cycle? Because it's healthy and inexpensive, says Mr G. Hari, President of TI Cycles, who wants to highlight these benefits through a cycle rally in Chennai on April 18. With the slogan `Clean and Healthy Chennai,' the rally is one way of bringing back consumer interest in cycling and rebuilding a market that has been losing out to motorised two-wheelers, which have been boosted by easy finance schemes, believes Mr Hari. The rally, BSA Cycle Run 2004, will see people from all walks of life rather than professional cyclists, says Mr Hari. In total, over 1,500 cyclists are expected to participate in the rally that will be flagged off by former cricketer Kapil Dev. The 24 km rally will start at Island Grounds at 7 a.m., go along the Marina and will touch Elliot's beach, the half-way mark, and will double back to Island Grounds. The rally will be co-sponsored by Levi's and Club Mahindra Holidays while Bailey will provide the water counters that will be lined up, at regular intervals, along the course. TI Cycles, a unit of the Murugappa group's Tube Investments, will also make available over 1,000 cycles at the venue for those who register. Mr Hari says the event will also help create a database of potential customers.
