Tourism Marketing - Promotions & Offers Dubai Tourism plans roadshows in India Our Bureau
Chennai April 7 THE Government of Dubai and Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) are conducting roadshows covering all the major metros in India to increase visitor traffic by 20 per cent this year, Mr Carl Vaz, Country Manager, Dubai Representative Office in India, has said. The number of Indian tourists to Dubai grew by 8 per cent to around 3.25 lakh in 2003 despite the threat of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and war in Iraq. India is now a key market for inbound visitors into the Gulf State. Dubai is also in the process of repositioning itself from just a shopping paradise into a holiday destination offering a number of options such as beach resorts, desert safari, golf holidays, deep-sea diving, scuba diving and city tours. Mr Vaz said that a 13-member delegation representing hoteliers and tour operators from Dubai was visiting India to explore opportunities to increase traffic from the region. India is among Dubai's top source markets contributing over 6.5 per cent of the total inward visitor traffic. Mr Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Executive, Overseas Promotions, DTCM, said that the Gulf State was well connected with India with 280 direct and indirect flights. The roadshow is also sponsored by the Destination of the World, a Dubai-based wholesale tour operator.
