US firms urged to tap pension market potential

Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 6

THE Foreign Secretary, Mr Shashank, on Tuesday said the US firms could look to tap potential opportunities in the Indian pension market in the coming days.

He also saw scope for joint projects (Indo-US) to be undertaken in third countries.

"After banking, insurance and the securities market, there is going to be potential opportunities in the pensions market", he said at a meeting on `Indo-US Economic Cooperation,' organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) here.

He also said foreign investment outflows from the country to the US were growing and had touched $1 billion.

"The US has become a leading recipient of Indian investments", Mr Shashank said.

The Foreign Secretary said the time had come for India and the US to consider joint projects not only in each other's country, but also in third countries.

He said both the Governments were in dialogue about how best to utilise the opportunities in areas such as services and knowledge-intensive industry.
