IPR Patent for fish products Our Correspondent
MADURAI: The Fisheries College and Research Institute at Tuticorin is planning to obtain patent for their new technologies with reference to ready-to-eat fish products, the Dean of the Institute, Mr R. Santhanam has said. Addressing newspersons at Tuticorin, near here, the Dean said that the twenty-five year old institute has developed a good number of technologies to prepare the ready-to-eat value added products. It is also intended to train 600 fisherwomen in the preparation of value-added fish products, ornamental fish culture and integrated fish culture with assistance from the State Government. He said that the Institute has planned to introduce `Fisheries Bio-technology' and a certificate course for the unemployed youth in hygienic handling of fishes and preparation of valued-added products. The Institute is also taking efforts to develop drugs to prevent diseases in prawn culture. The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Institute is to be organised on August 26 and 27 with all-India seminar on `Fish Culture', he added.
