Reliance Infocomm sees EBIDTA-positive profits

RELIANCE Infocomm will be reporting EBIDTA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) positive results for the current financial year ended today - March 31, 2004, according to Mr Akhil Gupta, CEO, Corporate Development, Reliance Infocomm.

The company which has more than 6 million mobile subscribers today, has reported a good offtake of its newly launched prepaid service as well, with prepaid users accounting for 80 per cent of new subscriber additions, he said, speaking at the sidelines of an award ceremony of Reliance Infocomm here.Reliance Infocomm gave away awards to those who won its application development contest. The winning applications included caricature creation on mobiles, voice-mail retrieval and voice-SMS applications for the handicapped, gaming applications for multiplayer interactivity and an auction engine for mobile usage.This contest was organised under the Dhirubhai Ambani Developer Programme in association with the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom). The winning applications could be hosted on the R-world platform after tests of scalability and robustness are worked out.

There are already 100 applications available on the R-world platform, said Mr Mahesh Prasad, President, Reliance Infocomm. The company will be tying up with Qualcomm and would be introducing its Evolution Data Optimising Technology (EVDO) in a couple of months, said Mr Gupta.
