Neilsoft bets on engg outsourcing

Pune , March 30

INDIAN visitors to the Niagara Falls and to the Ceaser's Snail Casino in Atlantic City can take pride from the fact that the giant tourist attractions have an Indian connection: the large multi-level parking systems in both these locations have been implemented by the Pune-based IT solutions company, Neilsoft.

The venture capital-backed company in the engineering services and solutions space is now all set to pitch itself as an engineering design services providers and has already bagged contracts worth $3 million from the US and the UK-based companies including Black & Veatch, Handson Spancrete and Concast.

"The next wave in outsourcing to come to India will be the engineering services space and when that happens we will be eminently positioned to tap the demand," says Managing Director, Mr Ketan Bakshi.

"Other IT companies are not in this space and we intend to leverage our expertise and focus on industrial plant design, multi-level parking, schools and residential buildings for which there is demand abroad," says Mr Bakshi.

The company has just announced the opening of its new engineering services centre and will add 120 engineers who will spearhead growth in the new focus areas. Next month will see an additional people hopping aboard.

"Over the next three years we will develop as a construction related engineering services player in the international market, based out of Pune," Mr Bakshi says. While only 16 per cent of the company's current revenues come from the construction area, the figure is expected to go up to over 40 per cent in the next two years.

"Project management and domain expertise are two major challenges in the field but we have already established ourselves and revenues will shoot up next year to Rs 22 crore and cross the Rs 50-crore market by the end of three years," Mr Bakshi says.

Meanwhile, the company is right now investing over Rs 2 crore in developing what Mr Bakshi says will be a mass produced tool which will address quality and product life cycle issues facing engineering companies.

The tool will have a defect analysis and defect management solution and Neilsoft's game plan is to address this product to small and medium enterprise in India before selling it abroad.

"We also plan to build relationships with OEMs abroad so that they can integrate it in their systems and operations at the beginning."

The company is also, meanwhile, working on a strategy which will brand Pune as the engineering hub in India.
