THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The country has exported 61,182 tonnes of natural rubber during 11 months of the current financial year ending February 11. An official spokesman quoted the Rubber Board Chairman, Mr S.M. Desalphine, as telling a meeting of the board that the target fixed for the period was 50,000 tonnes.

Another feature of this year's export was that only 52 per cent constituted sheet rubber. Value-added rubber constituted the rest. In the previous year, sheet rubber exports had amounted to 79 per cent.

Production of rubber was expected to touch 7.11 lakh tonnes by the end of the financial year. This will represent an increase of 9.5 per cent over that of the previous year.

Realisation of rubber cess has also looked up this year, Mr Desalphine said. The collection up to March 25 amounted to Rs 84.75 crore against the year-end target of Rs 83 crore, he added.
