Tea Tea Board to test eAuction soon Our Bureau
Coimbatore , March 30 THE Tea Board is now bucking up to roll out the pilot phase of the eAuction project at the auction centres in Guwahati and Coimbatore soon. "It is expected to go live and kicking off in a month's time," said Mr Vikram Kapur, Executive Director, Tea Board, Coonoor. Conceding that there was a delay in the execution of the project, Mr Kapur said that the mock trial indicated some slippage because of some bugs in the software. "It is being sorted out. We are monitoring the development. It is a complex technology and will have to be fine-tuned to show zero error before demonstrating it live," he explained. The four-year project, estimated on a total outlay of Rs 23-crore was aimed at setting up of a `tea portal' - an informative cell, for dissemination of information to trade and industry. "One of the key component of the portal is the eAuction. We are working on the other modules," he added. The Tea Board has so far invested up to Rs 10 crore on this project. Mr Kapur indicated that in due course all the seven auction centres - three in the North at Guwahati, Siliguri and Kolkata, and four in the South at Kochi, Coimbatore and two at Coonoor would be interlinked. The Tea Board decided to digitise the auction process based on the recommendations made by A.F. Ferguson & Co.
