Ayurvedic doctors' plea

KOCHI: A meeting of ayurvedic doctors and associates of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Awareness Forum here has urged the government to take concerted efforts in coordination with various agencies to protect IPR pertaining to ayurveda.

Expressing serious concern over the practice of acquiring patent rights on ayurvedic components by companies in foreign countries, Dr Jyothi Lal, Professor, Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, said that applications seeking patent rights had been filed abroad for at least 65 items in the ayurvedic stream.
