5 cos register for Green Globe Certification

FIVE Indian organisations have registered themselves for Green Globe Certification with the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
Green Globe Certification has currently been obtained by participants from over 30 countries spread across all the continents of the globe.
The present aspirants are The Malabar House in Fort Cochin, Hotel Bawa International in Mumbai, Le Royal Meridien in Chennai, Pondicherry Tourism and Transport Development Corporation and Eco Adventures Private Ltd, a press release issued here has said.
The WTTC developed Green Globe in 1993 and it was officially launched in 1994 as a membership and commitment-based programme. It was expanded in 1999 with the introduction of the Green Globe 21 Standard and commencement of independent auditing.
It was upgraded in May 2001, as part of continuous leading-edge improvement. It now includes actual measurement of environmental improvements through benchmarking. A logo can only be used once an operation is measured to be above the benchmarking baseline level of performance.
The certification is given at the end of 12-months benchmarking based on environmental management performance standards in areas such as conservation of water, waste management, savings in electricity consumption, control in green-house gas emissions, air quality protection and improved social/cultural relations.
