Training on Good Manufacturing Practice

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A four-day training programme on Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) got under way at the Veterinary Biologicals at Palode near here.

GMP is a necessary adherence to prescribed standards that the WHO is insisting on in the manufacture of medicines and vaccines. The training programme is being spearheaded by Mr C.K. Moorthy, an expert in the field from the Centre for GMP, Secunderabad. Scientists of major laboratories and the Veterinary Biological Institute of the Animal Husbandry Department are attending the programme.

The institute itself is going in for GMP standards. The Centre has agreed to provide 70 per cent of the funds needed for implementing GMP standards at the institute, which is expected to be got over with during the course of the current financial year, an official spokesman said here.
