Kerala to set up Excise intelligence bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Excise Minister, Prof K.V. Thomas, has said that the State Government would set up a State-level Excise Intelligence and Investigation Bureau with a mandate to detect abkari offences and expedite investigation into them.
The Excise Minister said three regional offices and 14 divisional offices would be set up under the State-level office. He exhorted members of the public to pass on information relating to offences such as unauthorised sale, movement and storage of liquor, movement of spirit and sale of arrack. The informants could even directly approach him at his office in the Secretariat Annexe at Thiruvananthapuram. Their name and other details would be kept confidential.
The Minister further said he had asked the officials to enforce the excise laws strictly. As part of the modernisation of the department, 44 new vehicles and a few boats were being provided to the 14 control rooms attached to the divisional offices and various units of the department.
