Thorat takes charge as Nabard MD

Mr Y.S.P. Thorat has taken over as the Managing Director of the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (Nabard).

Prior to the appointment, Mr Thorat was Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India.

Mr Throat will hold office from the date he takes charge of the post till he attains the age of 60 years, that is, up to November 30, 2007, said an RBI press release.

Mr Thorat joined the Reserve Bank in April 1972. He has varied experience, especially in rural credit, deposit insurance and urban co-operative banking system.

Between 1993 and 1997, as Chief General Manager of the Rural Planning and Credit Department of the Reserve Bank, he oversaw restructuring and reform of the Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).
