Indian Bank launches Sunday remittance service in Singapore

P. S. Suryanarayana

Singapore , March 13

INDIAN Bank's Singapore branch has launched ``Sunday remittance service'' on the basis of what the bank saw as a need felt by the Indian nationals in the City-State.

To begin with, the new facility will be available on the first and last Sundays of every month, the bank announced. The service was inaugurated on March 7 by the Acting High Commissioner of India in Singapore, Mr Ravi Bangar.

Besides catering to those wishing to make Indian-rupee remittances from Singapore, the bank is seeking to facilitate the transfer of funds in Sri Lankan currency as well. Indian Bank's presence in Colombo and its tie-up with Hatton National Bank of Sri Lanka are cited by a spokesman of the bank in support of its optimism on this score.

To encourage cash-less transactions as part of this ``remittance service'', the bank has introduced ``NETS facility'' through an ``appropriate tie-up arrangement with Network for Electronic Transfers Singapore Pte Ltd''.
