Social Welfare Corpn Bank donates Rs 15.61 lakh to HelpAge India Our Bureau
Mangalore , March 12 CORPORATION Bank celebrated its 98th Foundation Day by donating Rs 15.61 lakh to HelpAge India Ltd, in Mangalore on Friday. The Chairman and Managing Director of the bank, Mr Cherian Varghese, who handed over a cheque for the amount to the Director General of HelpAge India, Maj Gen Inderjit Singh Dhillon, said, "We should be concerned about less fortunate people in society". The bank launched a Savings Bank and Current Account Campaign from August 18 to October 18, and decided to donate Rs 5 for each account opened during the period to HelpAge India, an organisation dedicated to the welfare of the underprivileged among the elderly. He said that 3,12,273 accounts were opened during that period. Thanking the bank for its gesture, Mr Dhillon said the amount would be used to support the destitute people. HelpAge India is providing ration, medical care, and emotional support to the destitute at its various centres. The mobile medical units of HelpAge India provide medical help to the destitute people, he added. Paying floral tributes to the founder of the bank, Khan Bahadur Haji Abdullah Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur, Mr Varghese said that the founder had the vision of corporate governance. In its "Vision 2006" audio-visual presentation, the bank highlighted its goal of becoming a number one player in India by 2006. Dr. N.R. Madhava Menon, Director of National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, who released the newsletter "Senior Citizen", said that technological innovation, high productivity, professionalism, customer appreciation, shareholder satisfaction, admirable degree of corporate-social responsibility and total quality management have been part of the culture and traditions of Corporation Bank since its inception. The Executive Director of the bank, Mr P.K. Gupta, proposed a vote of thanks.
