New Products & Services Usha makes a summer splash Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 10 GEARING up for the scorching summer, Usha International has come out with an array of 42 products in different categories of home appliances, targeting both rural and urban markets. Mr Sunil Wadhwa, Managing Director, told a press conference that the company introduced a low-cost fan for the rural market. "We have beaten the psychological barrier of Rs 1,000 for the rural customers. We are offering at Rs 800 a piece, making it affordable for them," he said. For the urban market, the company added five new ceiling fans to its stable with a choice of wooden blades, fancy light fittings, brass and nickel finishes. Priced in the range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000, these models were targeted at the growing demand for decorative fans. In the room cooler segment, the company launched nine models to all segments. "Andhra Pradesh is a huge market for us in this segment," Mr Wadhwa said. The rollout also includes gas-based geyser. "Worldover people are opting for economical and cost-effective gas-based geysers," he said. Usha, which registered a turnover of Rs 400 crore in 2002-03, is looking at Rs 450 crore for the current fiscal. "We are expecting to export products worth Rs 100 crore this year as against Rs 80 crore last year," he said.
