Announcements Lupin enters exclusive pact with Baxter for ceftriaxone injection Our Bureau
Mumbai , Feb. 28 LUPIN Ltd on Saturday announced its second significant global announcement in less than a week. The company has entered into an exclusive agreement with the US-based medical products company, Baxter Healthcare Corporation, to distribute the latter's generic version of ceftriaxone sterile vials for injection, in the US market. Roche is the original patent holder and its product is marketed under the Rocephin brand name. Lupin said that the once-a-day dosing ceftriaxone injection is used to treat infections of the urinary tract, lower respiratory tract, meningitis, skin and skin structure, among others. Interestingly, the company's announcement followed a "premature leak" of the information, possibly as a result of computer-hacking.. Earlier this fiscal, Lupin had received the US Food and Drug Administration approval for its Abbreviated New Drug Application for ceftriaxone vials for injection 250 mg, 500 mg, 1g and 2g. The product would be manufactured at Lupin's plant in Mandideep, Madhya Pradesh but the launch in the US would happen only after Roche's product patent expires in July 2005.
