Our Bureau

VISAKHAPATNAM: A team of officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) raided two units here on Thursday along with police officials and consumer activists. Misuse of the ISI mark was detected.

According to a press release issued by the Director of the local branch of BIS, Mr N.P Kawale, here on Friday, the team raided Pallavi Industries, a packaged drinking water unit, on the outskirts. The licence of the unit had not been renewed after September 17, 2003, due to such malpractices earlier, but the officials found that the firm was persisting with the malpractice. Incriminating packing material was found during the raid.

Another unit, Vijayalakshmi Cements Pvt. Ltd, on the outskirts of the city, was also found to be misusing the ISI mark. The firm was selling slag cement under the brand name Vijaya.
