ALL outstanding issues concerning work on the Madurai-Thiruvananthapuram 400-KV power highway have been resolved and the project will be readied for commissioning in the next three months, according to the State Electricity Minister, Mr K. Muraleedharan.
Speaking to newspersons here, the Minister said the 143-km-long stretch of the power highway project has already been completed. Work on the 108-km-long stretch falling within the State boundaries of Kerala had been held up for sometime due to resistance from local people.
These issues have since been resolved and the District Collector has been authorised to finalise the amount of compensation to be paid to those affected by the project. Orders have been issued to the effect that all work be completed latest by May 31.
Mr Muraleedharan said the half-an-hour cyclic load shedding resorted to during peak hours in the State would continue. There was some speculation that the State Government might lift the load shedding by deciding to draw more on thermal power sourced from outside.
According to the Minister, lifting of the load shedding in one go would have meant the Kerala State Electricity Board making up the shortfall of an estimated one million units per day by drawing on costlier thermal power.
