Gammon India bags orders worth Rs 200 cr

Mumbai , Feb. 25

IN a significant achievement that will shore up its bottom-line, the Indian construction major, Gammon India Ltd (GIL), has bagged three orders worth Rs 200 crore.

The Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board has awarded a Rs 131-crore order to GIL for building and operating the distribution network for a water supply project in Surendranagar district, while BHEL offered a Rs 52-crore contract for construction of a cooling tower and chimney at Bellary.

GIL, which built the world's longest river bridge across Ganges at Patna and India's first cable-stayed bridge, has notched up an income of Rs 287.5 crore and a net profit of Rs 6.13 crore in the third quarter of the current fiscal.

During the nine-month period ending December 2003, the company achieved sales worth Rs 786 crore and a net profit of Rs 18.94 crore, as against Rs 730 crore and Rs 18.83 crore during the 2002-03 financial year respectively.
