Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The State Government has declared Chidambaram and Kattumannarkoil in Cuddalore district as delta taluks.

According to the Cuddalore District Collector, Mr Gagandeep Singh Bedi, who made the announcement at a farmers' grievance redressal meeting recently, the order has been passed to the effect on February 13 and the privileges that are available to the farmers in the Delta region would be extended to both the taluks in the district.

Around 59,200 hectares of agricultural land in the above taluks are being fed by Cauvery water.

The farmers in the region have been demanding the Government to extend the benefits as given to the delta farmer for over two decades.
