SSI Codissia to buy Rs 35-cr equipment L.N. Revathy
Coimbatore , Feb. 19 IF product manufacturers perceive fairs and expos as the route for reaching out to the world, Intec 2004 - the Industrial Trade Fair now being held in Coimbatore, could mark a starting point for many. The organiser, Codissia, has for the first time come forward to procure machineries and equipment to the tune of Rs 30 crore to Rs 35 crore for its pump, motor and allied-industries' Cluster Development Project. The Rs 66-crore project, prepared with the help of the International Centre for Advanced Manufacturing Technology (a wing of UNIDO) and other experts, is expected to benefit small industries involved in the manufacture of pumps, motors, its allied industries and foundries. The Central Government grant is Rs 50 crore while the State Government is Rs 1.21 crore. According to the Codissia President, Mr Tee Narayanaswami, this project would bring a modern tool room to Coimbatore, apart from a world-class engineering plastics and other polymer testing research and product development centre, an advanced manufacturing and rubber components development centre, a foundry institute and other facilities. "Apart from a group-level intervention, Codissia would, under this project, take up technology mapping in individual units, find the gap and plug them by comparing the performance with benchmarked units. This way, we will help the small units to emerge as world-class manufacturers," Mr Narayanaswami said.
