Fiat on VAMBAY scheme

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Secretaries of local self-government bodies have been directed to resolve problems in the implementation of the Valmiki Ambedkar Aawas Yojna (VAMBAY), according to the Minister for Local Administration, Mr Cherkalam Abdulla.

In case any applicant does not hold original right to the title of the property, he would need to produce only a certificate that bestows on him a right of possession for a period not less than 12 years for being considered for the VAMBAY scheme. Those applicants who happen to be residing in shanties and holding title to property admeasuring to not exceeding three cents will be exempted from the requirement of "zoning" as part of implementing the programme. The local administrations have also been asked to settle the implementation process on a priority basis, the Minister said.
